Planning: Voice Over Script

Hey Cambridge! One strength of my movie opening is that I had no dialogue; my cameraman could talk to me while rolling and I didn't have to worry about sounds like cars or planes. In terms of that, all my sound has to be added in voice overs, foley, and music. In this blog post, I'll be worrying about my voice-over script.

"Script writing is the process of writing stories for a variety of mediums including film, TV, video games, and commercials."

I know nothing about writing scripts but this is what I learned about screenplays to help me write mine.

This is the sample screenplay I'll be using by StuioBinder. It's also the example for screenplays that they have on their website: Afraid of the Dark

Fade in- marks the beginning of the screenplay

Scene Heading- a few words to give context on location and time of day in the scene

Action- the written description of what's happening on screen

Transition- directions for scene transitions

Character- specifies who is speaking

Extention- gives context if character speaking isn't on screen

Dialogue- the lines a character is saying

Since I don't have any dialogue other than the voiceover, I figured this is all the knowledge I need. With this, I took to it and made my voice-over script in which I utilized all these terms and techniques. Once I was done with it, I read it over a few times before recording. I then realized that I wanted my film to take place in Regency England, so I'd need to do an English accent. However, I am simply not capable of even slightly passing as English. I was speaking about this to my good friend Margot and because I've known her for so long and just got used to her voice, I completely forgot she has an English accent since she's from London. She looked at me like I was stupid but after a minute I realized what she was implying with that "Hello? I'm right here!" look. For this reason, she will be my voiceover actress.

Bonus points: she's in theater, so I know she won't let me down when it comes to that professional aspect.

I'll obtain and post her informed consent to be recorded in a later blog.

Here's my voiceover script:
